Support and Fixation
The end cap supports the armature shaft via a bearing, ensuring rotor stability even at high speeds and preventing mechanical failures caused by vibration.
Fixed magnetic pole cores and excitation windings maintain the stability of the motor's magnetic field, ensuring continuous output of electromagnetic torque.
Protection and Sealing
The end cap, together with the housing, forms a sealed space that prevents the ingress of dust, moisture, and other contaminants, thereby protecting sensitive internal components such as brushes and commutators from corrosion.
Some end caps are designed with inspection windows, making it easier to perform daily maintenance as well as inspect and service the commutator and brushes.
Current Conduction and Commutation
The rear cover uses the brush holder to introduce current into the rotor windings, working in conjunction with the commutator to periodically reverse the current direction, thereby ensuring a consistent electromagnetic torque direction.
Special structures, such as hexagonal bearing fits, enhance torsional resistance, reduce the risk of bearing failure, and improve starter reliability.
