Front-end Cover (Drive End Cover)
Materials: Typically made from cast iron casting or pressed steel plates to withstand high-intensity mechanical stress.
Function:
Support the starter drive mechanism (such as the shift fork, drive gear, etc.) to ensure its stable operation.
Inside, it features a fork holder and drive gear travel adjustment screws, with the fork supported by a pivot pin to ensure precise engagement between the drive gear and the engine flywheel.
Equipped with an intermediate bearing plate to prevent the armature shaft from bending or deforming due to its excessive length, ensuring it can withstand the impact loads of the starter.
Rear Cover (Brush End Cover)
Materials: Primarily made from die-cast aluminum alloy, balancing lightweight design with efficient heat dissipation.
Function:
The brush holder and brushes are fixed to provide commutation current to the rotor. The brush holder typically features a frame-like structure, with the positive brush holder securely insulated and the negative brush holder directly connected to the end cap, ensuring proper current conduction.
It features 4 symmetrical box-type brush holders, with 2 brushes grounded through the housing and the other 2 insulated from the end cap—enabling the brush leads of the series-wound starter to connect directly to the field winding.
The center is equipped with bronze-graphite bearings or iron-based oil-impregnated bearings, reducing friction losses and extending service life.
