The core structure of an automotive starter
2025-09-05
The car starter consists of three core components that work together to efficiently convert energy and transmit power.
Direct-current electric motor
As a power source, it operates based on Ampère's law: an electrically charged conductor experiences a force in a magnetic field, causing it to rotate and drive the motion of the drive gear.
It internally includes components such as the armature (rotor), magnetic field windings (stator), brushes, and commutator, ensuring stable current conduction and efficient power output.
Transmission mechanism
Similar to a "bridge," it precisely engages the drive gear with the flywheel ring gear, transmitting the motor's torque to the engine crankshaft.
After the engine starts, the transmission mechanism automatically disengages the drive gear, preventing the starter from continuing to run and avoiding unnecessary wear.
Electromagnetic switch
As the circuit "commander," controlling the flow of electricity: when the start switch is pressed, the circuit connects, and once the engine starts, the circuit disconnects.
Inside, it contains an attracting coil, a holding coil, and contacts; the magnetic field generated by these coils actuates the iron core, triggering the switching action.
